Concert Band
The Indian River High School Concert Band is the introductory high school concert ensemble for students continuing their musical journey into ninth grade. This course provides students with a welcoming and structured environment in which they can strengthen fundamental skills, develop mature ensemble habits, and begin building the confidence and musicianship expected in the Indian River Band Program.
Throughout the year, students will continue developing characteristic tone quality, rhythmic accuracy, technical facility, intonation, balance, blend, musical expression, and sight-reading skills. Rehearsals focus not only on preparing quality concert literature, but also on helping students grow as independent musicians, responsible ensemble members, and positive contributors to the band community.
Concert Band students perform at school concerts and other program events throughout the year, representing the next generation of the Indian River Band tradition. For many students, this ensemble serves as the bridge from middle school band into the broader opportunities available at Indian River, including advanced concert ensembles, Marching Braves, Jazz Band, Indoor Percussion, and other performance opportunities.
Concert Band is designed primarily for ninth-grade students with prior experience in middle school band who wish to continue performing in high school. Students should already have experience performing on a traditional band instrument and be prepared to participate fully in rehearsals and concerts.
Students entering Indian River who are interested in continuing band but are unsure of their placement are encouraged to contact the band director for guidance.
