Director's Bio

Dan Miner is in his second year as the Director of Bands at Indian River High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. His duties include instructing the Concert and Symphonic Bands. Additional responsibilities after school hours include directing The Marching Braves as well as River Jazz ensembles.

 

Mr. Miner has 11 years experience teaching band. He began teaching in 1999 at Speight Middle School in Wilson, NC, teaching band and chorus. The band program doubled from 75 students to over 160 in his 4 years at the school. He then taught high school band for 5 years at Greene Central High School and James B. Hunt High School, respectively. Mr. Miner taught middle school and high school band at Rosewood Middle and High Schools in 2008-2009 before learning that North Carolina budget cuts could jeopardize his job. This brought Mr. Miner to Chesapeake, Virginia in 2009. Mr. Miner’s bands have consistently received Superior and Excellent Ratings at various competition and festival venues in North Carolina and Virginia. Students have regularly experienced success auditioning at the county, district, and state levels.
